MCG - BMW - 5-SERIES (E12) 1973

In 1972 BMW introduced the sedan line that would replace the "Neue Klasse 1500/2000", which had become quite obsolete. Called the series 5 (type E12), the car initially had a 2000cc engine with or without injection (520i, 520). In 1973 the 525 was introduced, with a 2494cc engine, which would later be joined in 1975 by the larger 528 (2788cc engine). But even in the smallest displacements, the 5 series developed successfully, thanks to the 1766cc 518 presented in 1974. There was also a sporty version, with a 3.5-liter engine and with decidedly brilliant allure, both in power (218 horsepower) and trim: this version, in production for just two years, from 1980 to 1981, was known as the M535i. The Series 5 type E12 went out of production in 1981, to leave room for a second generation, called the E28.
