If Arrows had to modify a system originally designed for the naturally aspirated Cosworth to adapt the turbo engine to the A7, with the A8 the team had the opportunity to start over with a new concept. The A8, equipped with the BMW turbo, was also the first F.1 with carbon monocoque designed by Wass. The car ran in 1985 and 1986, obtaining good results especially in the first year. Gerhard Berger, Thierry Boutsen, Christian Danner and Marc Surer drove the A8.
