Having finally won one Grand Prix in 1998, Jordan faced the 1999 F1 season with the clear goal of grabbing third place in the constructors' championship. Lost Ralf Schumacher who passed to Williams not without legal consequences, the Jordan drivers were the reconfirmed Frentzen with Damon Hill, coming from Williams. The Mugen V10 engine was improved and a more effective weight distribution characterized the Jordan 199, the results of which were however more erratic than expected. Despite this, Eddie Jordan's team managed to finish third in the constructors' standings, behind Ferrari and McLaren. Frentzen, winner in France and Italy, was third among the drivers, while Hill was 11th, with a fourth place in Imola as the best result.
