The Caravan version of the Opel Rekord A was marketed from May 1963 to July 1965 in 128,277 units, plus 20,711 vans. It was the most spacious Caravan produced by Opel to date. The 4-cylinder engines were the 55hp 1488cc and 67hp 1680cc. With Caravan A, Opel had to face competition that was becoming increasingly fierce: Ford Taunus P4 Kombi and Volkswagen Variant 1500: the latter, like the Rekord, was only available with a three-door body.
