Volkswagen has often been a forerunner brand, just think of the Golf GTI first series or the VR6, bringing new concepts. With the R32 version of the Golf Series IV and V, the Wolfsburg manufacturer invented - so it was said - the "maxi-GTI". And in fact, the engine had a lot of maxi, with 250 horsepower (3189cc) at 6300 rpm. Presented in 2002, the R32 series IV gave way to the V series in 2004. It was perhaps too advanced a concept for its time, which found in the years of the end of production (ended in 2008) an ever greater competition, given by Golf R, Civic Type-R, Focus RS and so on.
