Although it never crossed the Iron Curtain, the Hungarian Ikarus was one of the largest bus builders until the fall of the Berlin Wall. Produced from 1968 to 1996, the 250 model was a modern vehicle with a self-supporting body, air suspension and rear engine. It was exported to all of Eastern Europe, including the German Democratic Republic.
