With the third series of the Polo, Volkswagen had for the first time a small town capable of settling at the top of the sales charts. Available at launch in 1995 with a 1300 and 1600cc petrol engine, the Polo (6N) was marketed in two trim levels, GL and GT. Later other versions appeared such as the particularly refined Carat, or the sports 1.4 16V GT and Sport. A restyling (model 6N2) was carried out in 1999 with slightly modified bodywork, new interiors and engines common with the Lupo range. The Polo III series went out of production in 2000.
