The 170S was a higher-end version than the 170V. The 170 were the first Mercedes built after the war. The S had a 1767cc and 52hp engine, which was later used to replace the 1697cc of the 170V, but in a weakened version (the 170V with the new engine were called 170SV). Roadsters were also made from the car, which despite the slender line did not possess distinctly sporty characteristics.
