The 404 is a milestone in the history of post-WWII Peugeots. Introduced in May 1960, the new sedan had a long career with different versions and engines. In parallel, more and more refinements were introduced to improve performance and reliability. The history of the 404 continued even after 1968, the year the 504 was introduced. European production stopped in 1975, but the 404AF version continued to be built in South Africa until March 1978.
