The McLaren MP4 / 2 that had dominated the 1984 world championship had some refinements for the 1985 season: the suspension was modified with a pushrod system front and rear. Alain Prost, who had lost the 1984 championship by half a point, won his first title in 1985 by winning five GPs. His teammate, Lauda, champion in 1984, won a GP and at the end of the year he decided to retire from racing.
