The 936, presented in 1976 for the new Group 6 regulations, was a very competitive car that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1976 and 1977. Porsche's main focus for 1978 was again the 24 Hours but that year the Stuttgart team had to yield to Renault-Alpine, which thus hit a long-pursued goal. The 936/78 of 1978 was characterized by a different tail design, which was also taken up in subsequent versions. The 936 won one last time at Le Mans in 1981.
