In the early 1960s, TVR was faced with increasingly fierce competition in the field of small sports cars. The second series of the Grantura (Mk.II 1960-1961, Mk.IIA 1961-1962) could be appreciated for the quality of its fiberglass body but the performance was sometimes disappointing. Over the years of production, the Grantura Mk.II gained additional weight, but the lightweight racing package remained available. The 1588cc and 80 horsepower MGA engine was the most popular but there was no shortage of cars with Ford or Coventry Climax engines. The Mk.IIA received the 1622cc 86 horsepower MGA engine.
