In trouble following the arrest of Leyton House owner Akira Akagi, the March team experienced a very difficult 1992 season, trying to survive month after month. At the last moment, the one-year continuation of the agreement with the engineer Ilmor for the supply of the V10 was obtained. The old chassis from 1991 was simply updated. The best finish was Karl Wendlinger's fourth place in Canada, which earned him the only three Constructors' points of the season. Paul Belmondo, Emanuele Naspetti and Jan Lammers also drove for March in 1992.
