The return of the Aston Martin to the prototype category was one of the main attractions of the ILMC (Intercontinental Le Mans Cup) 2011. In March 2011, the LMP1 class AMR-ONE, designed under the direction of George-Howard Chappell, was unveiled. he had worked for Prodrive before becoming Aston Martin Racing team principal. The technical choices, completely different from those of the competition (especially Audi and Peugeot) surprised everyone: open bodywork with high sides, 6-cylinder in-line turbo engine, Xtrac gearbox arranged horizontally. His racing debut ended with an 11th place finish at Castellet and the season went on to no avail. After giving up on Spa to prepare for Le Mans, the two AMR-ONEs registered for the 24 Hours opened the retreat list, at the second and fourth hour.
