After the experiences in the DTM with the V8 Quattro, Audi began to design, in view of the 1993 season, a competition version of the 80 Quattro series B4. The new Klasse-1 regulation provided for engines with a maximum displacement of 2.5 liters. The new Audi, developed in 1992. The engine was a 2499cc 4-cylinder with a power of approximately 390 horsepower. The traction was permanent integral. The car, of which nine were planned, never actually raced, as Audi expected the Klasse-1 regulations to be adopted outside Germany as well. Only three examples of the 80 Quattro 2.5 DTM were built and used only in tests.
