If the Matra MS10 was equipped with the Ford Cosworth, the MS11 was equipped with the V12 Matra, designed by the group headed by Georges Martin. Aside from the engine, the MS11 looked quite similar to the MS10. The development of the engine proved problematic. The car debuted at the 1968 Monaco GP and the best result of the season was Beltoise's second place in Germany. The MS11 was also used for all-wheel drive tests and - for 1970 - with a new V12. For 1969 Matra left its Formula 1 representation to Tyrrell.
