The first version of the March 721 for 1972 was essentially an update of the 711 model, and used the same bodywork for the first race. Later the front was modified; the new aerodynamic configuration was accepted by all teams except the Eifelland. The 721 was designed especially for individuals, even if it was used by the official team while waiting for the 721X.
