Mazda chased its first IMSA success for many years; success that finally arrived in 2019 at Watkins Glen thanks to the RT24-P. Since the GX program ended in 2013, Mazda had dedicated its efforts to developing a car capable of winning the overall standings. Mazda celebrated its centenary in 2020 and in the IMSA championship one of the official cars, in the iconic Soul red crystal, always bears the race number 55, the same as the 787B that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1991.
