Although officially known as the March, the 1981 811 was built by a joint venture of John McDonald's RAM and Robin Herd. The 811 looked a lot like the Williams FW07 and it was no coincidence as the RAM team had used a private FW07 in previous seasons. Over the course of the season, Herd was replaced first by Gordon Coppuck then by Adrian Reynard. Despite the changes, including a shorter wheelbase version, the March 811 was never competitive. Derek Daly and Eliseo Salazar drove it.
