The first generation of the Standard Vanguard went into production in 1947. It was a solid 6-seater sedan, resembling certain American Plymouths. The engine was a 2088cc in-line 4-cylinder, although a 1.8-liter was tested on certain prototypes. Some convertibles were produced in Belgium by Imperia. In the 1950s the bodywork underwent some changes and in 1952 a new front grille and a lower bonnet line were designed.
