The EXP Speed 8 marked Bentley's return to racing after a 68-year absence. The GTP-class EXP Speed 8 was designed by Racing Technology Norfolk (RTN) under the direction of chief designer Peter Elleray. The operations were headed by Audi Sport UK under the name of Team Bentley. The car shared some parts with the Audi R8C used in 1999 together with the R8R. The EXP Speed 8 made its debut in 2001 by obtaining a third place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
