With the 964 generation, presented in autumn 1989, the aesthetic changes to the now classic 911 line were quite limited. Technological innovations were more noticeable, starting with the all-wheel drive introduced on the Carrera 4 model, initially available only in the coupé form. The 964 was also available in a two-wheel drive version (called Carrera 2), sold either with coupé, convertible or Targa bodywork. Both Carreras had a 3.6-liter 250-horsepower engine. An even sportier breath animated the range since 1990, with the arrival of the Carrera 4 Leichtbau, lighter and more powerful, and the Carrera RS, with a 3.6-liter M64 / 03 3.6-liter engine with 260 horsepower. Since 1991 the Carrera 4 offered, in addition to the coupe, the convertible and Targa bodies and all the Carrera models had the option of a "Turbo-look" bodywork that made them aesthetically resemble the 911 Turbo. In 1992 a small series of 911 Carrera RS was marketed with a 3.8 liter engine, which gave about forty more horses than the 3.6 mounted on the basic Carrera RS. For the thirtieth anniversary of the 911, Porsche marketed in 1993 a special version of the Carrera 4, called the Jubilee, in a limited edition of 911 units. Time had come for the next generation of the 911, the 993, which was presented in Frankfurt in September 1993.
