EDICOLA - MERCEDES BENZ - S-CLASS 300SEL 6.3 (W109) 1969

The idea of mounting the 600's 6332cc M100 V8 engine on a W109 series came to a Daimler-Benz engineer, Erich Waxenberger. The new car, signed 300 SEL 6.3, was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1968. The car was also equipped with the transmission and pneumatic system of the 600. Outwardly the 6.3 was recognized for its lowered tires and little else, such as the double Bosch halogen headlights and fog lights, a solution that was also offered on the 300 SEL with 3500cc engine. The 6.3 cost about 10,000 marks more than the already performing 3.5. A competition version was developed by AMG, finishing second in the 1971 24 Hours of Spa among other things.
