The Toyota GT-One complied with the GT1 regulations of the late nineties which required the construction of a very low minimum number of road specimens, allowing the houses to prepare real prototypes. Toyota, after an aerodynamic development in which it made use of the precious collaboration of Dallara, participated in the 1998 and 1999 editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans but did not collect the success that the Japanese manufacturer had been waiting for for years. In particular, in 1998, the model in command, piloted by Thierry Boutsen, retired just an hour after arrival due to a break in the gearbox.
