With the 1988 100T, always powered by Honda, Lotus was unable to repeat the results of the previous year. Senna had moved to McLaren and in his place, from Williams, was Nelson Piquet. The other driver, Nakajima, has been confirmed. The car immediately appeared less competitive than the 1987 99T and Piquet never managed to go beyond a few third places, finishing sixth in the championship.
