The BRM P153, introduced in the 1970 Formula 1 World Championship season, marked a positive recovery for the English team. With it Pedro Rodríguez conquered a victory at Spa (the second and last of his career for the unfortunate Mexican driver). Designed by Tony Southgate, this single-seater proved immediately extremely innovative compared to the P139 used the previous year. In particular, a real step forward was made under the aerodynamic aspect, with more flattened lines compared to the classic cigar shape of the other cars. Built on a monocoque aluminum frame equipped with a small tubular structure to support the engine (a longitudinal 60 ° V12 rear unit of 2,998 cm³ with a power of 435 hp at 11,000 rpm), it had a weight of 535 kg and a wheelbase of 2,440 mm.
