The Renault R5 was marketed starting in 1972. The beginnings were quite complicated because it took the public some time to fully understand the new car from the Régie. Two models were marketed in the initial range: the L (type R1220) with a 782cc engine (845cc for the L Export) and the TL (type R1222) with a 956cc engine. Over the years, numerous improvements were made to the range, which was enriched with new models, such as the LS, the TS, the GTL, up to the Alpine sports car, introduced in 1976. Between the end of the seventies and the beginning of the years eighty, the R5 changed again, with a five-door configuration (1980) and the turbocharged version of the Alpine (1982). Other versions such as the TX had made their appearance. In the mid-eighties, the R5 gave way to the Supercinq.
