Seven prototypes and three years of development served Lamborghini for the development of the Murcielago, the heir to the Diablo which inaugurated the new course of the brand under the aegis of Audi. The car was presented in September 2001 and featured some typical Lamborghini stylistic features, albeit cleaned up of all redundancies. The engine was an updated 6192cc V12, located in the mid-rear longitudinal position. The declared power was 580hp at 7500 rpm. The traction was the permanent integral one of the Make, already inaugurated in 1993 with the Diablo VT. This first version remained in production until 2006 but as early as 2004 other variants made their debut, such as the Roadster and the LPs.
