The Golf GTI, presented in 1976, was the ancestor of all hot hatchbacks. The idea was simple: to fit a relatively powerful engine on a normal hatchback to make it a genuine sports car. The first series Golf GTI was equipped with a 1600cc 110 horsepower that guaranteed respectable performance. The car remained in production until 1979, but the Golf GTI series was destined to continue to this day.
