A good synthesis between legacy and modern technology: the Xantia, presented in 1991, placed itself in the Citroën tradition of aesthetically original cars and equipped with cutting-edge solutions. An excellent level of finish and above-average reliability made the Xantia a good alternative to other French and German models. The high pressure hydraulic system complemented the qualities of the Xantia, which was perhaps the best Citroën-PSA. Today some configurations such as the Activa are starting to be sought after by collectors. The Xantia went out of production in 2001 after 1.3 million units built.
