The 944 S2 replaced in 1989 the 944 S of which it took up the technology and bodywork. The four valves per cylinder and the 3-liter displacement still allowed it to develop 211 horsepower, 21 more than the S. As for the convertible version, the prototype was presented in Frankfurt in September 1987, then in the final version in Geneva. in March 1988. Its bodywork took shape from a 944 Turbo body reinforced by the ASC company and then assembled by Audi like all Porsches with 4-cylinder engines.
