Derived from the X300 series that had been presented in 1994, the Jaguar X308 series represented a natural evolution of it. Introduced in 1998, the X308 featured brand new in-house built 3.2-liter (243 horsepower) and 4-liter (294 horsepower) V8s that replaced the 6-cylinder and V12. The X308 represented a significant step forward compared to the X300 also in terms of reliability. The X308 remained in production until 2002 with 126,290 units built.
