1963 was the year of development of the Peugeot 404 range, with the arrival of the injection convertible, the coupé and finally two models for use by families and artisans / traders: the 404 Grand Luxe and Commerciale Luxe. Available in two versions each (L and LD for the estate, U6 and U6D for the commercial), these 404s were powered by the sedan's 1618cc type XC unit on the L, the 1468cc XB5 on the U6 and the XD85 (diesel) from 1816cc on the LD and U6D. These versions presented a rather elegant line, despite the 19cm lengthening of the wheelbase. If the family member could carry a maximum number of eight people, the commercial one allowed a maximum load of up to 500kg. In October 1964, the 404 Break Super Luxe was presented, the mechanics of which were identical to that of the sedan (XC5 engine).
