For 1980, Renault presented a development of the RS10, with aerodynamic updates and throughout the season modifications continued to be made to the design, with particular attention to the effectiveness of the brakes. The team won three Grands Prix (Brazil, South Africa and Austria) but the main problem was that of reliability, with too many engine failures often linked to valve tightness. For the cars of 1980 various abbreviations were used, from RE20 up to RE25.
