For 1980, Ligier presented a further improved version of the JS11 which performed well in 1979. The new 1980 JS11 / 15 had revised aerodynamics, a slightly different monocoque and new front suspension, as well as a modified rear end. The cars were lined up with two different configurations according to the circuits (slow or fast) and managed to confirm the handling qualities shown in 1979. The Ligier reached second place in the constructors' championship, the best result ever. The pilots were Jacques Laffite and Didier Pironi.
