In the early 1980s, the Corvette's C4 series replaced the C3. The new car had nothing in common with the previous one. After eleven years of absence, the convertible version also returned. The radical ZR1 cost practically twice as much as the standard versions, with a V8 engine designed by Lotus. Production of the C4 series lasted twelve years, from 1984 to 1996.
