Intended to replace the 911 Carrera RS 2.7, the Carrera RS 3.0 was marketed in 1974. Its production was rather limited (some sources speak of 109 units). The new Carrera RS had the 3-liter 911/77 engine that gave 230 horsepower. The car formed an excellent basis for competitions, being homologated in Group 3, while Porsche was able to homologate the RSR in Group 4.
