Inspired by the BMW 2002 Turbo, the Lancer 2000 Turbo is a sports saloon produced over the course of two years (1981-1983) in just 1250 units to allow homologation for rallies. The engine was a turbocharged 1997cc 4-cylinder, which developed a power of 170hp. The car was appreciated for its distinctly sporty behaviour, obviously more captivating than that of the standard 1600cc version. The external presentation, quite flashy, possessed all the sporting attributes typical of the time: spoiler, alloy wheels, absence of chrome and red side strips.
