1972 was the cut-off year for Barracuda, which was outlawed by the strict American anti-pollution laws. The most powerful engines in the range disappeared (426 Hemi, 383ci, 400ci) and it was the end of the muscle-car reign. It then went from seven to two V8s weakened to 150 and 240 horsepower. The Slant-six survived with displacements of 198 and 225ci. The convertible version officially disappeared from the catalog as did the Gran Coupé.
