2003 saw the official return of Maserati to racing: for the occasion, a single-make championship (“Trofeo Maserati Europa”) was presented, reserved for an elaborate version of the 4200 GT Cambiocorsa. In terms of engines, the “Trofeo” boasted 23 horsepower more than the standard version (413 against 390), essentially derived from the modification of the exhaust system. Carbon fiber door and bonnet and Plexiglas side windows replaced the stock parts. The aerodynamic aspect was also particularly cared for, with a redesigned bumper and a striking full-width single-wing rear spoiler. Fun and easy to drive, the “Trofeo” proved to be an excellent vehicle not only for gentlemen drivers, but also for those young people who wanted to pursue a career in GT racing. The Cambiocorsa Coupé Trophy gave birth to the European single-make in 2003 and 2004, and was later replaced by the GranSport Trophy. In 2004 the Brazil Trophy was born, where the Cambiocorsa Coupé Trophy continued to race the following year, equipped with a new front wing.
