In 1970, after decades in which the English and German Ford ranges had radically differentiated themselves, the European subsidiaries of the Detroit brand decided to implement an economy of scale. With the TC series, Cortina and Taunus were therefore unified, while retaining quite different aesthetic features. These were traditionally designed cars with good comfort and rather lively engines. The initial Taunus range consisted of a 1294cc with 59hp and a 1593cc with 72 or 88hp. The offer then expanded by integrating the older 2-litre 90hp V6, replaced in 1974 by a version of the in-line 4-cylinder increased to 1993cc (99hp). A 2.3-liter 108hp V6 also appeared on some markets. Five trim levels were available: base, L, XL, GXL and GT, with slightly sportier characteristics, associated with the more powerful 1600cc. The Taunus was offered with sedan, coupé and 5-door estate body styles. The first series of the Taunus TC remained in production until November 1975.
