At the 1966 Turin Motor Show, Ghia presented a coupé derived from the Mexico chassis and with the Quattroporte engine, which delivered a power of 340hp, allowing a maximum speed of 265 km/h. The Ghibli - named after the African wind that blows from the south-east - went into production in 1967. In 1970 the car was updated (Ghibli SS), with changes also to the engine capacity, which went from 4709 to 4930cc. The weight increased and the power dropped slightly (330hp) but the maximum speed reached 280 km/h. Aesthetically, the Ghibli SS received new lights and new interiors. The car was produced until 1972 in approximately 1300 examples.
