Alfa Romeo presented a concept car based on the Giulia at the 1967 Universal Exhibition in Montreal. The reactions w4ere so enthusiastic as to give hope for a mass production of the car which, called Montreal, was presented definitively at the Geneva Motor Show in 1970: the development of the production version had been very long. The car received a 2.6-liter V8 engine derived from that of the 33/2 Competizione, while the bodywork, designed by Marcello Gandini, was characterized by very slender and modern lines.
