The second series of Ford Cortina appeared in 1966 and had more modern lines and slightly larger dimensions. A 1300 engine replaced the 1200cc at the low end of the range. A year later a 1599cc engine was introduced, which equipped the 1600 and 1600E versions. In particular, the 1600E was credited with a power of 88hp at 5400 rpm, 17 more than the standard 1600. Both the 1600 and 1600E went out of production in 1970 when the third series was introduced.
