To replace the Austin Healey 3000, assembled by Jensen and which BMC intended to cease production, the P66 project was launched. The engine was the classic Chrysler V8, but the car featured many innovations, including the steel platform, tubular chassis and original bodywork designed by Eric Neale, style manager at Jensen. However, it was decided not to follow up on the P66 project, preferring to turn to Vignale and Touring body builders for the development of the Interceptor. Only two prototypes of the P66 were built, one coupe and the other convertible.
