In 1960 Ferrari was still a rather marginal builder, looking for outright success. Audacity and ambition were not lacking at the Maranello house, which presented its first 2 + 2 coupe, the 250 GTE. The design was by Pininfarina, perfectly balanced, with an elegant and light tail. The 250 GTE became a key sales model for Ferrari, with its superb Colombo-designed V12 and remarkable road holding and handling qualities. Around 950 examples were produced until the end of 1963 (the second series was presented in Geneva in 1963).
