Natural heir to the 8C TF, the Maserati 8CL, still equipped with an 8-cylinder in-line engine below the 3-liter limit (2982cc) with a power of 430 horsepower at 6800 rpm, was built in just two examples. The first car, commissioned in 1940 by an Argentine team for Paul Riganti, attempted to qualify at Indianapolis in 1940, then continued his career in South America; the second car, prepared immediately after the war, made its debut in Indianapolis in 1946 with Gigi Villoresi. The same car won the 1948 Mar del Plata GP with Farina.
