The 735S (the number indicated the unit displacement) was a sports car equipped with a 3000cc 4-cylinder engine and a new 5-speed gearbox that formed a single block with the differential. The bodywork of the 735S was built by the Carrozzeria Autodromo (Modena), which had already worked on some 166MM / 53 specimens and which gave the car a low and profiled line, with a strongly sloping front. The use of 4-cylinder engines for Sports, already experimented on the 625TF and 735S, was consolidated at the end of 1953 when Ferrari fitted a 2-liter version on the 500 Mondial.
