The Ferrari 553 Formula 1, which had not achieved great results in 1954, was revised for the 1955 season, becoming the 555. Changes were made to the chassis and suspension, while the engine was the 2500cc 4-cylinder unit producing 260 HP. Despite the drivers' efforts, the results remained rather dull, in a year dominated by the Mercedes W196’s. Ferrari seemed to have reached a sort of standstill. The acquisition for 1956 of the Lancia team undoubtedly brought a new lifeblood to Maranello.
