With the Touring, BMW sought to innovate by proposing a compact car with a tailgate but which nevertheless retained the sporty characteristics of the hatchback. The Touring remained closely connected with the 02 sedan. The 2000tii version, introduced in 1971, had the 1990cc engine of the carburettor version, but in this case equipped with the Kugelfischer PLO4 injection system (M15-type engine). In 1972 the 2000tii took the name of 2002tii to conform to the 02 range. Production of the 2000 / 2002tii Touring stopped in 1974.
